The Lanaudière region

Lanaudière is a region that runs along the river from Montreal to Berthierville in the south, and to the Manawan sector, north of Saint-Michel-Des-Saints in the Matawinie RCM.

The southern part of the region is an agricultural plain that is part of the St. Lawrence Lowlands. The altitude varies between 1 m (at the St. Lawrence River) and about 100 m (at the piedmont). The rest of the region is dominated by the characteristic relief of the southern Laurentian Mountains, with numerous hills exceeding 400 meters.  The Mont-Tremblant massif includes the most important mountains, both in terms of altitude and recreational attraction. Mont Noire, near Saint-Donat, (892 meters) is the highest point in the region.

Located approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Montreal, there are 58 local municipalities, grouped into six regional county municipalities (RCMs). The population is approximately 494,000 people who are called : Lanaudois and Lanaudoises. (Source: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanaudi%C3%A8re)

A green region

The people of Lanaudière have given their region the justified name of green region. The color green unifies diversity. The green of the countryside, of the parks and shaded streets in the cities, the green of the banks of the great river, the Berthier islands and the endless nature of the north. The Lanaudière palette is also the green-blond of hay, the green-blue of fir and the dark green of spruce. It is also the green of the enthusiasm and hope of the openers of the country, of the entrepreneurs who founded cities and parishes, and of the youth of today.
