Hello everyone, this is Lydia Soczniew and Sylvain Leclerc, your RE/MAX real estate brokers in Lanaudière. Today, we'd like to tell you about a natural gem located right in the heart of the town of Rawdon. We're talking about Rawdon Lake. From the owners of charming lakeside homes to the tenants of apartments on the outskirts of our beautiful municipality, everyone is fortunate to have access to this treasure, which contributes greatly to the quality of life of Rawdon residents.

lac rawdon

Rawdon Lake covers an area of 1.8 km2, with a maximum depth  of 25 metres. Its history dates back a century, when the construction of a dam on the Rouge river in 1914 gave rise to this splendid reservoir. It is fed by several streams, including Pontbriand creek, which comes from Pontbriand lake to the northwest. Rawdon lake then flows into Rawdon creek, which joins Ouareau river to the east. Over the years, it has become one of the region's natural and cultural jewels, proudly classified by the Centre hydrique du Québec as "recreational and resort".

Rawdon is also renowned for its waterways, notably the Rouge and Ouareau rivers, and the proximity of magnificent Lake Pontbriand. As passionate real estate brokers of the region, we are convinced that this exceptional environment contributes to making our municipality even more attractive to all those who wish to settle or invest here. Don't hesitate to contact us to discover the unique real estate opportunities Rawdon has to offer around the natural treasure that is Lake Rawdon.

Is it true that Rawdon has a municipal beach?

Absolutely, the rumor is well-founded! Rawdon lake is home to a municipal beach, one of our region's most remarkable natural gems. It features a fine sandy beach with a natural slope that gives you access to a bathing area clearly delineated by a cable, stretching some 6 feet deep and 125 feet wide. This beach is much more than just a place to swim; it's a natural, non-motorized water sports area that offers visitors and the general public the chance to bask in an enchanting environment, surrounded by an abundance of flora and fauna.

An average of over 25,000 visitors converge to enjoy the recreational and tourist attractions offered by Rawdon's municipal beach.

In summer, Rawdon's population (11,719) doubles with the arrival of city dwellers who come to enjoy their summer cottages or campsites, making the town a festive tourist destination. Rawdon lake is thus proving to be a valuable asset, bringing significant outdoor and economic benefits to our local community.

What other activities are available on Lac Rawdon?

At Rawdon lake, you can enjoy a variety of water sports, including kayaking, canoeing, pedal boating and electrically-powered boats. These boats can be launched at Rawdon's municipal beach, located on 8th Avenue. It is important to note that the use of gasoline-powered boats is strictly prohibited by federal regulations.

As far as fishing is concerned, opinions differ among the anglers who frequent the "Québec Pêche" site. Some people report having made a few catches, while others regret not having had the chance to catch those coveted little trophies. However, all agree on the beauty of Lac Rawdon's environment and its calming power, making this a privileged spot for nature lovers.

In winter, the site offers a free ice ring, an equipped sliding area, a small skating rink and a field hockey rink. Snowshoes are also available for hire from the beach chalet.

Protecting Rawdon Lake and the environment

Rawdon showcases its exceptional and diverse natural environment through a wide range of environmental initiatives undertaken in collaboration with residents. To this end, the municipality has set up an environmental advisory committee made up of five to seven resident members and two members of the municipal council, who submit opinions and recommendations on all matters relating to the environment. The town has also drawn up an environmental action plan aimed, among other things, at preventing water contamination, protecting lakes and rivers and maintaining biodiversity.

What else does Rawdon have to offer?

Rawdon boasts a tourist information center, as well as several municipal parks with playgrounds, team sports fields, a skate park, a tennis court, a beach and a 6-km bike path, offering numerous recreational opportunities for citizens and visitors alike. A day camp enables our young citizens to enjoy a fun-filled summer in the heart of nature, with a qualified team.

Also close to Rawdon lake is Dorwin Falls Park, one of Rawdon's best-known and most visited attractions, offering majestic scenery and ecological trails. In winter, a forest skating trail is set up, illuminated by the trees for a magical show.

Parc des Cascades

Parc des Cascades is also coveted for its many waterfalls cascading over the rocks.

Les Randonnées colorées

La tournée des Cantons offers several kilometers of marked trails in the beautiful Rawdon countryside. Access is free, and trails are open summer and winter. Although small, the town of Rawdon offers many events throughout the year, including its Marché La Récolte de Rawdon from June to August, Cyclofest, Festival international de folklore, Le Grand Frisson, Festival Intermonde and L'Eaushow.
